2018–2019 Handbook Directed by Mrs. Allison Ellis St. Ignatius Catholic School 220 Doty Street Kaukauna, WI 54130 Dear Parents/Guardians, I am delighted that your child is interested in being a part of the St Ignatius Choir this school year! Being in choir is a wonderful opportunity for students to grow together through music. Our Choir is open to students in 5th-8th Grade. Please make sure to read through this entire handbook to familiarize yourself with the policies of this group. Once you and your child have both read through the handbook, please sign and return the bottom half of this page. Please also include an email address to receive email updates and reminders regarding choir rehearsals and performances. This handbook will also be available on my teacher page: [https://stignatiusmusic.weebly.com/] Our first meeting date is August 29th,2018 for “auditions.” Students do not have to prepare anything: we will all learn a song together, and then students will sing individually just so that I can hear their vocal range. Students, please don’t stress! It doesn’t take long, and I don’t bite! If you have any questions about choir, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] I’m looking forward to a great year of music making! Sincerely, Allison Ellis Choir Handbook Form (Please return no later than 9/6/2018 I give permission for my child to be a member of the St Ignatius Choir for the 2018-2019 school year. We have read through the Choir handbook and understand the expectations and rules of being part of this group. _____________________________________ _____________ Child’s Name Grade ____________________________________________________ Parent/Guardian Email Signature St Ignatius Choir Rehearsals Choir rehearsals are held in Mrs. Ellis’ music classroom: Every Monday 9:50-10:30 (5/6 Choir) and 12:40-1:20 (7/8th Choir) Every Thursday: 11:10-11:50 (5/6 Choir) and 12:40-1:20 (7/8 Choir) If a rehearsal is cancelled for any reason, students will be made aware by their homeroom teacher. All belongings other than a student’s water bottle, snack, choir folder, and assignment notebook must be kept out in homeroom. Exceptions will be made if students have art immediately following their choir time. Students are expected to use the restroom prior to choir rehearsals. Choir Rules and Behavior
*PLEASE NOTE: If a choir member disregards the rules during a rehearsal, they will not be permitted to join us at our next scheduled Mass. This results in a loss of rehearsal points (5 points daily) and Mass points (10 points per mass). If a choir member continues to disregard the rules, they will be asked to leave the group, the student will receive a debit or office referral, and parents will be notified our next course of action. Attendance Policy It is crucial that students are present at all rehearsals and Masses. However, it is understandable that conflicts do come up. If a student cannot attend a performance, please send a note to school with your child or send me an email as soon as possible explaining their absence. Excused absences include: Illness/Absence from school Family Emergency Planned in advance Vacation/Travel Being in choir means being an enthusiastic, and dedicated member of our group. We need everyone present at all times to do our best! Mass and Rehearsal Dates On the following two pages you will find our entire Mass, concert, and rehearsal date schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. If there are any changes to the schedule, parents will be notified by email with the details. Choir sings for about one Mass a month, and we sing at school Masses on Thursdays (8:20 am) and at Graduation in the spring. *If you are already aware of conflicts with any of the dates on the following pages, please let me know at your earliest convenience. Cantors for School Mass: Volunteers for cantoring will be taken at the beginning of the year. These singers will be partnered up and put in a rotation for the year. By doing this, singers know what days they are singing, and when they are not available to altar serve or take another mass part. This also prevents Cantor burnout, as they will be spread out evenly and each will sing about the same amount of times as their peers.
